What does a spot cleaner do?

A normal vacuum collects loose, dry dirt. A spot cleaner tackles a different job: applying water and, where needed, a compatible cleaning solution, then extracting the liquid along with loosened dirt. Vortex is designed for this wet-cleaning process; it should not be used to vacuum up dry dust or debris.

The practical difference is that you work on the affected fabric with a handheld brush. You control where the water goes and how you move the suction opening over the surface. The fabric still needs time to dry afterwards.

What should you consider before buying?

Check the fabric before choosing the machine. Do not use Vortex on materials that prohibit water-based cleaning, delicate items or surfaces vulnerable to water damage. It is not intended for hard floors. If the care label is unclear, ask the furniture or fabric supplier before treating the area.

Some stains may remain. The type of substance, how long it has been there, previous treatments and the material all affect the result. A water-extraction machine cannot guarantee that every mark will disappear.

Large areas mean more hand work. Vortex uses a handheld tool. If your main task is cleaning an entire room of fitted carpet, compare the working width and handling of a full-size carpet cleaner or consider professional cleaning. For occasional, localised jobs, the handheld format may be more practical.

Allow for tank emptying and drying. The dirty-water tank is smaller than the clean-water tank. Watch its fill line throughout use rather than waiting until all the clean water has been used.

How to clean a fabric stain with Vortex

1. Check and prepare. Read the material's care instructions. Remove loose debris with an appropriate dry-cleaning method, such as a normal vacuum. For a wet spill, remove excess liquid before adding more water or solution.
2. Test an inconspicuous area. Check the cleaning method and solution on a hidden edge for colour change or other damage before treating the visible area.
3. Set up the machine. Secure the hose and selected brush. Fill the clean-water tank without exceeding the maximum line. Use water no hotter than 40 °C; if adding detergent, use a suitable non-foaming product at its labelled dilution. Close and seat the tanks correctly.
4. Treat the mark. Switch on, use the spray button and work the brush over the affected area. Avoid saturating the fabric or its padding.
5. Extract the moisture. Position the suction opening against the fabric and adjust the brush angle as shown in the manual. Too much or too little tilt can reduce water pickup. Make extraction passes without continually adding more water.
6. Stop to empty the tank. Switch off before the dirty water reaches the maximum line. The float stops suction when the tank is full; do not keep cleaning through that warning.
7. Let the material dry. Allow ventilation and wait until the treated area has dried before using it again. Drying time varies with the fabric, moisture left behind and conditions in the room.

Clean the machine after each use

The hose-cleaning attachment helps flush residue out of the hose. Follow the manual's powered flushing sequence, then switch off and unplug the machine before removing, rinsing or servicing parts. Empty and rinse both tanks, clean the brush and check the foam filter.

Let the cleaned parts dry fully before reassembling and storing the unit. The attachment does not replace tank cleaning, and the main electrical unit must never be immersed in water.
